Система статистических показателей, в своей совокупности количественно характеризующая варьирование конъюнктуры рынка с целью выявления тенденции экономического процесса. При исчислении индексов деловых циклов учитывается, что экономический процесс в значительной степени находится в зависимости от экономических предпосылок. Индексы, с помощью которых изучаются эти предпосылки при проведении циклического анализа, рассматриваются как причинные показатели вариации. Индексы, выражающие экономическое существо самого хозяйственного процесса, являются ведущими показателями вариации. Индексы,количественно характеризующие экономические явления, порожденные стихийным рыночным хозяйственным процессом на той или иной стадии его циклического развития, называются следственными показателями. Каждый из показателей, условно включенных в одну из трех этих групп, количественно характеризует лишь одну какую-либо сторону хозяйственной деятельности.
